About Health: 4 Tips to Keep You Physically Fit Under Break-Up Stress
Charles Stuart Platkin, author of the syndicated nutrition and fitness column “The Diet Detective” and founder of DietDetective.com, offered several tips for staying mentally and physically healthy while going through divorce:
1. Take a healthy cooking class. You’ll meet new people, do something just for yourself and also learn to cook in a healthy way.
2. If you’re physically able, participate in a 5K run. Join an organic food coop. Join a gym for both exercise and social interaction. Take yoga or other fitness classes. “Channel your newfound freedom and time,” Platkin said. “Use it to your advantage.”
3. Stock your refrigerator with low-calorie frozen meals or other easy-to-fix foods. “If you’re down, you don’t have the emotional energy to cook a whole meal and you may go to a fast-food restaurant instead,” he said.
4. Join a grocery store that prepares read-to-go meals for you in advance to make food preparation easy. Buy food with a friend and spend one day each week cooking the coming week’s meals that can be put in the freezer and easily reheated.
